Christian Aid
Christian Aid is a charity, formed 60 years ago by Christian churches to bring aid and support to the poorest parts of the world, where our kindness and generosity is vital in sustaining the poverty-stricken communities. Don’t be fooled by the name; although built on a Christian basis, Christian Aid prides itself on its dedication to provide help wherever it is needed most, regardless of religious differences. They truly work by the Christian principals of treating and loving one another as equals.
Christian Aid is a charity which relies on your gifts and donations to carry out its vital work, as they work relentlessly to change the underlying causes of poverty. They seek to change the fundamental workings of poor societies in an attempt to stop the endless cycle of poverty before it can grow to unseen levels. Christian Aid is a strong supporter of ending Third World debts and has been one of the key groups backing the Make Poverty History campaign, which saw huge successes with their wrist bands. They have pushed for trade justice, to provide fair pay for products from Third World countries, which are bought for tiny amounts from foreign farmer and sold on in the West at huge mark-ups. Your gift of a donation to Christian Aid will contribute towards the end of this terrible practice that sees people working in the fields for shockingly low wages. Because of the seasonal nature of these jobs and the wages that barely cover the days food, many of these female workers find themselves forced to move to the populated cities to work in the sex industry, just to provide food for their children, who they don’t get to see for months at a time. It is a truly heartbreaking scenario that we can only imagine the horrors of. By giving to Christian Aid, you are giving to an organisation that work desperately hard to combat climate change, reduce poverty and change society for the better. Our donations are the start of change, gaining momentum and size with more donations from other people who also care. Gradually, slowly but surely, our kindness is changing the way the world works and, with Christian Aids help, we can only hope that one day, poverty will be a thing of the past.
