PDSA
The Peoples Dispensary for Sick Animals is a specialist charity which focuses on the care of sick animals for poor families. As all of us pet owners know, vet bills and animal care can be incredibly expensive. No caring human being can leave their pet to get sicker and sicker; they are our companions through thick and thin, our best friends who are always there. The sad fact of the matter is that when pets get sick, many families have to cut back on their spending a great deal to make sure they can cover the vet’s bills. This is where the PDSA comes in. Set up in 1917, the PDSA is the UK’s largest private employer of vets in the UK. Providing their services for pet-owners on Housing Benefits or Council Tax Benefits, the PDSA relies entirely on donations to keep providing their services.
Caring for the animals of every pet owner on benefits in the UK is obviously a huge undertaking. There is a great deal you can do to help ease the constant pressure the PDSA has to cope with. For just ten pounds, you can provide an animal with the antibiotics he or she needs to fight off infections that can leave them struggling for survival. We’ve all heard the terrible stories of animals found in squalid conditions, abandoned and left to starve because their owners just can’t afford to look after them anymore. Saving these animals is very costly as it takes a great deal of time locating these animals and nurturing them all back to health. The PDSA’s work in assisting the most financially strained families with their pet care is attacking the root of the problem, cutting the number of pets dumped dramatically. In the long run, not only does this save vast sums of money spent bringing these pets back to full health, it also saves them from being forced to endure the feelings of desertion change them forever. By contributing to the PDSA on someone else’s behalf, you aren’t just saving a pets life; you are enriching the lives of every member of the family that owns them.
