Save the Children
Save the Children have been leading the research and action into the eradication of the suffering of children since 1919. They have made it their sole aim to improve the lives of children around the world, through educational schemes, free healthcare and by providing emergency aid and assistance in the wake of natural disasters and the ravages of war.
All around the world, children are suffering at the hands of many. It is easy to forget, when talking about rights and freedoms, to forget that the children of the world need rights too. So often, parents are given the priority, when it is the children who find it far harder to look after themselves. Being more vulnerable to disease, not old or strong enough to work and malnourished, children in Third World countries are in no position to fight for a greater recognition of their limited rights and push for change. Even a small donation can make a major impact on a child’s life. By donating to Save the Children, you could be providing protection to a child who suffers every day from illnesses contracted through dirty water; water that could be purified for as little as £20. Save the Children has run a huge campaign over the last year which has shown exactly how vital their work is to children’s safety in poor communities. After word began to spread that aid workers and peace keepers were taking advantage of children in poverty-stricken areas, Save the Children began to research the claims and uncovered a dark world where some of those who had gone to Africa under the pretence of helping the poor, were sexually abusing and exploiting children. With this huge discovery came proposals to ensure this process was stamped out as quickly as possible. Save the Children have again triumphed in safeguarding the well-being of countless numbers of children from any threats they may face. By donating as a gift to someone you love, you are giving these children their livelihood back. They can run and play as all children should be able to. They can drink water without fears of sickness. They can grow up with an education and an opportunity to live full and happy lives. When trying to select a gift this year, please spare a thought for these children in need.
