Sense
Sense is a fantastic charity based in the United Kingdom that has fore-fronted many of the developments in care and everyday living for deafblind people. The organisation was created in 1955 and has grown into one of the predominant groups campaigning for deafblind people in the UK over the past quarter-century. Through their exceptional work we have gained much of our current understanding of the difficulties faced by deafblind people, and, when needed, they have assisted in the provision of assistance and services to those most in need.
A survey carried out in the 1990′s estimated that there were roughly 21,000 deafblind people living in the uk, and Sense believe about 60% of these people were elderly. Although it is obvious that all these people need a group like sense to act as their voice on a national scale, we must also consider the strains old age can put on anyone. Through the fantastic work done by Sense over the past 60 years, these people can always know that when it comes to their hearing and sight impairments, there are always people listening and fighting for their rights.
Sense regularly fight discrimination against deafblind people and campaign on both UK and EU levels to increase awareness of disability. They follow the social model and strive to support deafblind being so that they can campaign for themselves. They are strong advocates of early intervention in the lives of deafblind children, so as to provide the best possible start in life and promote equality across the nation. Their fundraising is entirely reliant on donation, so please, take a moment to imagine the troubles faced by the deafblind community. Think about the difference your support could make to so many people and support Sense today.
Sense publish a magazine, Talking Sense, which draws attention to the work they do and provides information on the assistance and support on offer to deafblind people. We strongly recommend you take a look at this for some hard-hitting facts about life in the deafblind community. Please consider a donation to Sense to help them continue to represent the deafblind people living in the UK. Just click the link with the sense logo and see what you can do today to help. Even the smallest donation can help Sense raise awareness of this disability and take us further down the road towards a society in which these impairments are not as debilitating as they are today.
